Working as a professional chef for over thirty years I can tell you there is a big difference. As most of us are cooking more and more at home choosing the right wood cutting board is very important.
No kitchen is complete without a quality cutting board. It is an essential tool that is heavily used by families on a daily basis.
If you take cooking seriously like we do, then you need a cutting board that is sturdy, safe for food preparation, and reliable. That is where Tavola Wood Crafts comes in. We offer a variety of wood cutting boards to improve any kitchen.
Before making a purchase, it’s important to know important features and details about wood cutting boards. Here are a few benefits to be aware of.
Quality is in the grain
Edge Grain. These are my personal favorites and the ones Tavola sells the most, always looking great in your kitchen. The reason is they last a very long time without dulling your knives. When taken care of, they will not absorb contaminants. They are made from parallel pieces of wood that have been fused together.
This is the most common wood cutting board and serving boards, which looks exactly like you imagined a wood cutting board or serving board would look. Quality boards are made from hard woods typically Maple, Walnut and Cherry.
End Grain. These boards can be quite attractive, however, also quite expensive. Some people deem it worthy, as it is better for the knives. They put together by combining the ends of several hard woods to create unique patterns.
These boards are more fibrous giving them a “self-healing” quality. Take note, they can also absorb more juices and need to be cleaned often with mild soap and water.
Face Grain. Face grain shows the most grain and often are the most striking of all wood cutting boards. However, they will show knife marks and not recommended for heavy use. These make great charcuterie boards and serving trays.
